A leading Japanese global logistics company located in Hayward, California, is seeking a Senior Supervisor for its Ocean Import / Export department.
＜Position Overview＞
This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Ocean Import / Export operations, as well as team management, customer service, and process improvement. The successful candidate will serve as a hands-on supervisor, leading the team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day Ocean Import / Export operations as needed.
＜Responsibilities＞
・Manage and supervise daily Ocean Import / Export operations
・Coordinate bookings with ocean carriers
・Coordinate trucking/drayage, warehouses, customs brokers, and other service providers
・Prepare Ocean Import / Export freight quotes and review rates
・Oversee import/export documentation, shipment status, and delivery coordination
・Manage, train, and develop team members
・Handle customer inquiries and resolve shipment-related issues
・Manage KPIs and support process improvement and operational efficiency
・Provide hands-on operational support during busy periods or as needed
＜Qualifications＞
・3+ years of hands-on experience in Ocean Import / Export operations
・Professional experience in the freight forwarding industry
・Experience booking shipments with ocean carriers
・Experience arranging and coordinating trucking/drayage
・Experience preparing Ocean Import / Export freight quotes
・Fundamental knowledge of Incoterms
・Basic understanding of FMC requirements
・Experience as a Team Lead or Supervisor
・Strong customer service and problem-solving skills
・Leadership and team management experience
・Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
＜Preferred Qualifications＞
・Japanese/English bilingual skills
・Knowledge of customs and customs clearance procedures
・Knowledge of trade compliance
・Experience handling both FCL and LCL shipments
・Knowledge of Ocean Import / Export documentation, including Bills of Lading (B/L) and ISF
・Experience managing KPIs
・Experience in process improvement and SOP development/review
・Experience in coaching and employee development
