Kitchen Assistant | Luxury Sushi and Kaiseki Restaurant

A luxury sushi and kaiseki restaurant in Newport Beach, California, is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for the dinner shift (3–4 days per week).

Candidates interested in working 4 or more days per week are also welcome to discuss additional scheduling options.

This upscale restaurant specializes in authentic sushi and kaiseki cuisine. Applicants with kitchen experience are encouraged to apply, but prior Japanese cuisine experience is not required. Those with fundamental cooking skills and basic kitchen knowledge are welcome to join the team.
This position offers the opportunity to support the Head Chef and culinary team while gaining hands-on experience with food preparation, plating, and various kitchen operations. <Position Summary>
Support the Head Chef and culinary team in the kitchen of a luxury sushi and kaiseki restaurant.
Primary responsibilities include assisting with food preparation and plating, such as preparing vegetables, handling ingredient prep work, and supporting daily kitchen operations. Candidates will begin with basic tasks and gradually take on additional responsibilities.
Previous experience in Japanese cuisine is preferred but not required. Individuals with knife skills and general cooking experience can succeed in this role.
Over time, there will be opportunities to expand knowledge and skills in sushi and kaiseki cuisine while growing within the position.

 

<Responsibilities>
・Assist with appetizer preparation
・Prepare ingredients, including vegetable cutting and other prep work
・Assist with plating kaiseki dishes
・Support preparation of dressed dishes and other simple menu items
・Prepare desserts following established recipes
・Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen
・Provide general support to the Head Chef and culinary team

 

<Requirements>
・Legally authorized to work in the United States
・Approximately 3 years of kitchen experience (restaurant type not specified)
・Basic knife skills and cooking techniques
・Fundamental knowledge of food preparation and cooking
・Available to work 3–4 days per week, including every Saturday
・Able to work effectively in a team environment
・Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precise tasks
