A large Japanese gas company in Houston, Texas is looking for a Manager for its Power Division.
<Job Overview>
Supports the operational and commercial management of North American power generation assets—including solar,
battery storage, and CCGT facilities—to ensure stable day-to-day operations, financial performance monitoring, and continuous improvement of asset performance.
<Job Responsibilities>
1. Operational Support for Power Generation Assets
・Monitor daily operational performance of Solar, BESS, and CCGT facilities.
・Coordinate with O&M contractors on maintenance schedules, performance issues, and corrective actions.
・ Review operational data (availability, downtime, incident logs) and identify basic improvement opportunities.
2. Revenue and Financial Performance Support
・Compile monthly financial results and support budget vs. actual variance analysis.
・Monitor basic market conditions such as price trends and supply/demand signals in ERCOT, PJM, and Mexico.
・ Prepare simple revenue forecasts and operational performance summaries for internal reporting.
3. Commercial Contract Operations (PPA / Tolling / Service Contracts)
・ Review key contractual obligations and monitor compliance (delivery requirements, reporting duties, notices).
・Assist in analyzing contract conditions and evaluating impacts on revenue and operations.
・ Coordinate internally with legal and technical teams during contract updates or renewals.
4. Safety and Risk Monitoring Support
・ Consolidate safety reports received from site teams.
・ Track safety KPIs, near-miss reports, and corrective action items.
・ Assist with information gathering and reporting during risk or incident events.
5. Project Support and Small-Scale Improvements
・ Manage progress tracking for small operational improvement projects.
・Coordinate with vendors, engineers, and internal stakeholders as needed.
・Support monitoring of project budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
6. Internal and External Coordination
・Serve as a point of contact among technical, legal, finance, and operations teams.
・ Prepare reporting materials for headquarters and management.
・ Handle routine communication with external partners and service providers.
7. Team Operations Support (Light Managerial Responsibilities)
・ Track team tasks, deadlines, and workload distribution.
・ Support onboarding and functional training of junior team members.
・ Assist with general business planning and departmental coordination.
<Requirements>
・At least 3 years of experience in power generation operations or asset management (IPP, utility, energy company, etc.).
・ Foundational understanding of power business fundamentals, including O&M, PPA structures, and asset operations.
・ Basic financial analysis capability (revenue review, budget monitoring, understanding of NPV/IRR).
・ Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills for reporting and analysis.
・ Business-level English proficiency (written and verbal).
・ Problem-Solving: Able to troubleshoot operational, contractual, and coordination issues using structured approaches.
・ Communication Skills: Clear written and verbal communication for reporting to management, headquarters, and external partners.
・ Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with technical, legal, finance, O&M vendors, and plant personnel.
・Time Management & Prioritization: Skilled at handling multiple tasks, deadlines, and operational follow-up simultaneously.
・ Basic Leadership: Able to support team planning, mentor junior staff, and coordinate collective work activities.
・ Proficiency in MS: Ability to manage operational data, financial summaries, variance analysis, and simple modeling and prepare concise
reports for management and headquarters.
<Preferred Qualifications>
・ Basic understanding of ERCOT, PJM, or other wholesale power markets.
・ Hands-on experience with O&M process improvement or project coordination.
・ Experience working in multinational or cross-cultural corporate environments.
・ MBA or a related master’s degree.
・ Japanese proficiency.
