Purchasing Associate – Japanese Food Distribution Company

A  Japanese food import and distribution company is looking for a Purchasing Associate to support procurement operations at their Honolulu, Hawaii branch.

The company provides a wide variety of Japanese and Asian food products to restaurants and retailers across the U.S. and is expanding its presence in Hawaii.

＜Job Description＞

As a Purchasing Associate, you will assist in procurement-related tasks and perform clerical duties that contribute to the smooth flow of the purchasing department.

• Prepare and process accurate purchase orders in coordination with the sales department

• Schedule incoming and outgoing shipments, and follow up with suppliers regarding late or missing deliveries

• Communicate directly with suppliers to gather pricing and product specifications

• Process new vendor registrations and maintain supplier contact information

• Maintain and organize detailed purchasing records including shipping and cost data

• Support import-related duties such as customs clearance coordination with brokers and vendors

• Assist with general office tasks such as document filing, phone support, ordering supplies, and preparing physical inventory

• Provide friendly and professional customer service to internal and external contacts

• Ensure compliance with company SOPs and attendance guidelines

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to handle administrative tasks and learn job-specific systems

• Communication skills for interacting with suppliers and internal teams

• Basic understanding of purchasing, logistics, or import operations preferred

• Prior experience in an office or clerical setting is a plus

• Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

• Japanese language skills are a plus but not required
