A large Japanese gas company in Houston, Texas is looking for a Finance Manager for its Power Division.
<Job Summary>
This role will focus on financial operations, planning, and analysis for shale gas upstream investments.
The position requires a balance of hands-on financial management and strategic support, particularly in areas such as investment evaluation, hedging, and ad hoc analysis of shale-related assets.
The successful candidate will work closely with U.S. asset teams, Tokyo HQ, and external advisors, gaining deep exposure to the shale gas sector and contributing directly to lobal energy strategy.
<Key Responsibilities>
1. Financial Management for Shale Gas Assets
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis specific to shale gas upstream projects mainly from the standpoint of a company’s shareholder.
• Prepare financial performance reports reflecting production trends, LOE, Capex, and pricing impacts.
• Monitor key cost drivers unique to shale operations (e.g., drilling & completion, gathering/transportation, operating costs).
2. Shale Gas Financial Modeling & Planning
• Maintain and enhance shale-focused upstream financial models.
• Conduct sensitivity analysis on gas prices, well performance, and capital expenditure assumptions.
• Support investment evaluations and mid-to-long term planning aligned with commodity price scenarios.
3. A&D Finance Support
• Perform IRR/NPV calculations for shale asset acquisitions, divestitures, and farm-ins/outs.
• Consolidate key financial inputs (LOE, GPT, Price, Capex) from operational teams.
• Collaborate with engineers and geologists to validate production and cost assumptions.
4. Hedging Strategy & Operations
• Assist in developing and updating hedging strategies for shale gas production.
• Manage hedge contracts (swaps, collars, options) executed by the company.
• Monitor hedge effectiveness and provide risk analysis under volatile market conditions.
5. Ad Hoc Financial Analysis
• Conduct financial analysis for special projects such as IPO readiness, minority stake sales, refinancing, and competitor benchmarking.
• Support scenario analysis related to energy transition and U.S. gas market dynamics.
6. Business Development
• Support evaluation of new investment opportunities in Gas & Power linked to shale gas value chain.
• Perform preliminary valuations and coordinate with financial advisors.
• Build networks within local shale-focused industry groups and investment communities
<Qualifications>
• Bachelorʼs degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
• CPA/CFA a plus.
• Experience: 5‒8 years in corporate finance, FP&A, or upstream oil & gas finance (shale experience strongly preferred).
• Strong financial modeling skills (DCF, IRR, NPV) tailored to shale gas projects.
• Understanding of U.S. shale operations (production decline curves, LOE, drilling economics).
• Knowledge of hedging instruments and commodity risk management.
• Familiarity with US GAAP / IFRS accounting standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to communicate across operational and financial stakeholders.
• Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with capability to manage multiple projects.
