A Japanese restaurant group based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California is seeking a Human Resources Manager to join the team.
This is a growing hospitality company operating four unique and vibrant restaurants, supported by a passionate team of 120 employees. Believing that people are the key to success, the company is looking for an experienced and proactive HR professional who values employee care. As the company’s first HR Manager, this role offers the opportunity to build and lead the HR function from the ground up, while playing a central role in shaping HR operations and company culture.
**This position follows a hybrid work model ( 50% remote).

The ideal candidate will have experience in the hospitality industry and be capable of designing scalable systems for recruitment, onboarding, compliance, benefits, and employee development. At the same time, they will be instrumental in fostering a supportive, inclusive, and positive workplace culture across all locations.
<Job Duties>
- Build HR Infrastructure: Design and implement HR systems, policies, and procedures tailored to a multi-location hospitality business.
- Compliance & Administration: Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws, particularly California employment law. Maintain accurate employee records and manage benefits administration.
- Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Lead end-to-end recruitment for hourly and management roles. Create structured onboarding programs to support long-term employee success.
- Employee Relations & Support: Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers. Handle employee relations matters with professionalism and discretion.
- Culture & Engagement: Develop initiatives that enhance team morale, reinforce company values, and build strong, inclusive cultures across diverse restaurant environments.
- Training & Development: Launch employee development programs, performance review processes, and internal growth initiatives.
- Workforce Planning: Partner with restaurant leadership on staffing strategy and succession planning.
<Requirement>
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Proficiency in Japanese (spoken and written) is a plus, as some employees may be Japanese-speaking.
- 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in hospitality, restaurant, or retail environments
- Strong knowledge of California labor and employment laws
- Demonstrated ability to build HR systems and processes in a scaling organization
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience managing multi-location teams is a plus
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus but not required
- Someone who can create new systems in line with the company’s growth.
- Fostering the company’s internal culture.
- Someone who can visit store locations and participate in meetings.
<Preferred Skill>
- Ability to leverage technology to scale HR operations
- Experience with HRMS (Human Resource Management Systems) and integration with restaurant POS systems
- Experience tracking business assets and equipment assigned to employees (e.g., manager computers, company vehicles, business cards, fringe benefits)
