A company operating restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaii, is seeking a Controller to join their team. The company focuses on “local production for local consumption,” managing Hawaiian-style restaurants, cafés, and izakayas.
In this position, you will oversee the company’s financial operations, maintain accurate financial records, ensure compliance with regulations, and lead the accounting team. By providing timely and accurate financial reporting, analysis, and budgeting, you will support strategic decision-making for all business operations.

Job Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial forecasts, annual budgets, and reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Report financial status to management teams in Hawaii and Japan.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance, conduct variance analyses, and provide actionable recommendations.
- Develop and manage internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations, including tax filings.
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company policies, federal and state regulations, and current accounting standards.
- Evaluate the performance of accounting and finance staff, recommending personnel actions such as promotions or terminations.
- Effectively delegate responsibilities while maintaining oversight and quality control.
- Review, record, and approve expense requests in accordance with company policies.
- Prepare annual tax returns or provide financial information for external accountants to complete tax filings.
- Perform tax planning.
- Build and maintain relationships with banks, insurance providers, and external accounting professionals.
Requirements
- Must hold a valid U.S. work visa.
- Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- 5–10 years of professional experience.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
Salary: $100,000/year

PTO: 5 days after 1 year of service / 10 days after 2-4 years of service / 15 days after 5-14 years of service / 20 days after 15 years of service. Only the amount from the previous year can be carried over.
Sick Leave: 5 days each year (applicable after 3 months of employment, no carryover)
