A Japanese IT company in the Upper East Side, New York is seeking an Accounting Manager.
This position requires commuting to the office.
**Job Overview**
You will be responsible for accounting operations, including monthly closing and consolidated financial reporting, as an Accounting Manager.
**Job Description:**
1. **Daily Operations**
– Manage daily operations by instructing staff accountants to prepare data entry for A/P (Accounts Payable), A/R (Accounts Receivable), and G/L (General Ledger).
– Approve corporate check issuance, ACH, and wire transfers.
– Facilitate fund transfers for payroll funding and other payments.
– Coordinate with the payroll company for payroll processing and prepare payroll data.
– Fund and maintain the 401K program, update employee payroll data, and prepare forms and declarations in compliance with IRS requirements.
– Submit sales tax returns.
– Monitor all expenses compared to the monthly budget.
– Direct subordinates to monitor the addition and deletion of assets monthly.
– Resolve disputes with vendors to maintain the company’s credit status.
– Address inquiries related to tax compliance (sales tax and other taxes) with sales and marketing departments or management in conjunction with the CPA.
2. **Monthly Closing and Reporting**
– Process customer invoices and close accounts receivable.
– Close monthly books using the general ledger to record payroll, depreciation, amortization, and other monthly adjustments under the guidance of subordinates.
– Finalize the trial balance and prepare monthly financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement) for reporting to management.
– Attend monthly meetings and report financial information and monthly activities/events affecting the company’s financial condition to management.
3. **Quarterly Closing**
– Provide quarterly financial data and materials to the Japanese headquarters for preparing consolidated financial statements.
– Make journal adjustments to finalize the quarterly trial balance.
– Participate in meetings with internal auditors regarding quarterly activities and events affecting the company’s financial condition, as necessary.
4. **Quarterly and Annual Reports to CFO, Vice President, and Corporate Planning and Operations Division**
– Verify quarterly transactions with the accounting department of the Japanese headquarters and close the books.
– Report quarterly and annual trial balances and backup data for key accounting items according to instructions from the Japanese headquarters.
– Report quarterly and annual profit and loss results.
– Verify annual transactions with the accounting department of the Japanese headquarters and close the books.
5. **Responsibilities Related to Federal, State, and Municipal Tax Matters**
– Prepare various tax returns and forms, including 1099, 1042, commercial rent tax returns, sales and use tax returns, etc.
– Consult with external tax accountants to determine estimated federal and state corporate taxes.
– Have external tax accountants prepare annual tax returns, review, and file the same.
– Seek approval from the general manager for external tax accountants to complete annual tax returns and submit them to U.S. tax authorities.
6. **Transfer Pricing Matters**
– Provide data and financial results related to transfer pricing to the CPA and Japanese headquarters.
– Complete transfer pricing documentation for income tax purposes in collaboration with the CPA.
7. **Business Planning and Budgeting**
– Participate in business planning and formulate the annual budget.
8. **Cash Management**
– Monitor the company’s cash balance, forecast short-term and long-term cash balances, and report to management.
– Handle issues with banks.
9. **Audit Preparation and Presentation to Auditors as Needed**
– Prepare for and respond to auditors regarding annual financial data.
**Requirements:**
–English and Japanese bilingual
–Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S.
– More than five years of experience.
– Bilingual skills in Japanese are preferred due to interactions with the Japanese headquarters, but candidates without them will be considered based on skills.
– Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Solomon is an advantage.
– Experience with general accounting in the U.S. (US GAAP) and proficiency in software other than QuickBooks.
